Rajghat and Fasting

It is one long forgotten person (b. 2 October 1869 and d. 30 January 1948) who institutionalized fasting. What is so great about it? Of 1.21 billion Indians, everyday nearly a billion miss a square meal a day. What is it if not fasting? Fasting is fasting whether it is by one who can afford meal or cannot. As it is significant number of people, on their own volition, miss a meal at least once a week, say on a weekday of their choice (mostly depending on their beloved deity) and on special days like Mahasivarathri, Amavasya and so on. There are others to compensate by their gluttony!

The aforesaid person transformed the common practice of fasting into an abject deed that created problem to the British Empire. Even after independence, once in a way some sinners are trying to make use of this as a weapon to disrupt the smooth functioning of our Government and the two houses comprising of 802 saints in Delhi.

The Truth is the very same person is still on fast from 30th January 1948 in Rajghat! Prove me wrong, if you can! Our government should not allow this symbolic relic of ghost of our past in the wake of our glorious present and still more glorious future of our country.

Indeed it is a matter of grave concern that Rajghat is fast becoming a Mecca for fasters on their eve of fasting visit it to derive inspiration from that grave dweller. One possible thing worth serious consideration is shifting Rajghat to any remote inaccessible less known island within our territory. This has numerous merits. Our leaders will save time which is wasted couple of times a year; visiting dignitaries will be spared of the ordeal of revisiting India’s detestable past and more importantly, it will help maintain the peace and tranquility of our glorious capital city Delhi. Once the last relic of abhorable past is far removed, if not completely destroyed, people like Ramdev and Anna Hazare ae sure to forget it soon as there wont be a place to visit on the eve of their intended fast!
