Guillotine

Our beloved Prime Minister said recently ‘there is no single solution to eradicate corruption’ and he could not be more wrong. I suspect this is the effect of Sibalised education system prevailing in the country. Students are discouraged to learn lessons from history by reading literature, or for that matter any subject. By cancelling examinations, Sibal made even parents forget what they learned as they no longer sit with their children during exams and recollect some of what they themselves learned in their childhood. So is the case with grand-parents of even our PM’s caliber who no longer play and learn with grand-children and let their memory fail. Undoubtedly, our PM is a scholar of economics and he demonstrated to the entire world. No wonder he hobnobs with the likes of Amartya Sen also.

All of us have read The Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens. Apart from its famous opening sentence, which is relevant to us today, the book also describes the solution to our present day problem at length. No wonder our PM either forgot or did not know about it. Those who knew around him do not suggest and feign ignorance in their own vested interest! It is the duty of your Tarantula, a mute spectator of great unread books in our libraries, to bring out the relevant fact to web readers’ attention.

It is indeed amusing how this solution inspired P G Wodehouse who wrote: there is only one cure for gray hair. It was invented by a Frenchman. It is called the …

This single solution has an immense practical value today. It can be applied on a) all those who are corrupt b) all those who defend/support corruption c) all those who are against anti-corruption protests and so on. It is known to be clean in its execution, neat, open and very effective solution and also a time tested one. Besides, viewers also will not forget the lesson. In fact, the prosperity of today’s France is followed by and very closely linked to the use of this great solution in its troubled time.

It’s called Guillotine!
